The city is bounded on the southwest by Linden, to the west by Roselle and Roselle Park, to the northwest by Union and Hillside, Newark to the north and east by Staten Island.
According to the Office of the United States Census Bureau, the city has an area of 35.4 KMA , of which 31.6 KMA is land and 3.7 KMA water (10.4 ).
